won 1st place in Junior Rotax Max, Junior Super Sportsman and Jr 80cc.
Austin was lucky to beat him in Junior Sportsman which is quite
an achievement after only a couple of years racing experience!

The U.S. Rotax Grand Nationals was an invitational race. To qualify drivers had to finish in the top few positions of the Rotax Max Challenge regional series they ran in. The top Rotax drivers in the United States, Costa Rica and Mexico met at NTK this year. This years winners go on to the Rotax World Finals in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt in January 2004. There they will compete against the champions from others countries around the world. We enjoyed participating in this event immensely. It was a thrill to compete with the best on the continent, and we're already looking forward to and planning for the Rotax Max championship chase next year! Congratulations Justin Melton and good luck in Egypt in January!

Race Summary - The event was scored on the total points earned for 2 separate events, the first race on Saturday 7/5 and the SKUSA Red River Region Pro Tour on Sunday 7/6.

07/05/03 - Race #1 - Ansel was #1 qualifier.
Ansel made an off track detour in the 1st lap of both the Pre-Final and the Final, each time allowing his motor to ingest large amounts of grass clippings . This limited the performance of his engine for both races putting him in 5th place overall for the 1st event.

07/06/03 - Race #2 - Ansel was #4 qualifier.
Ansel was knocked out of the Pre-Final heat in the 3rd lap by Levi Roberts who was disqualified for his action, Ansel was in 2nd place at the time. This gave him a poor starting position of 6th for the Final event. Ansel made an excellent start in the Final event coming from 6th to 3rd after the first turn. He quickly passed Taylor Harris later in lap 1 for 2nd place. In lap 5 he passed Justin Melton for 1st place. He pulled away from his competitors and never looked back the rest of the race, running the fastest lap times for 17 of the 20 laps. Ansel finished the 20 laps with more than a 5 second lead over the 2nd place kart! Ansel's poor point score from Race #1 the previous day added to his resounding Race #2 win earned him 3rd place overall for the event after the points from the two races were combined!

Austin did an excellent job of processing and analyzing the data downloaded from the onboard MyChron computer proving himself a valuable member of Gaddy Racing!
